We are getting a lot of interest and a lot of questions about our crabgrass control program since we announced it, so it would seem prudent to revisit the subject and address some of these questions.
·
When will the program start?
One of the most common questions is, “When will we start the program?” The answer is, not to sound coy, soon. Crabgrass thrives in warmer weather, and it is an annual grass, meaning it dies off each winter after going to seed. It needs soil temperatures to consistently be 55 degrees or higher to germinate the new seed. We aren’t there yet.
·

"How will you know when to start?"
This is simply a matter of going out in the field and actually seeing the new crabgrass in the first or second tiller stage. We have to do this anyway, to be sure what our clients are calling crabgrass actually is. I was out this week to check a few lawns and found no crabgrass as yet.
·
“How much will it cost?”
If you are a full-program customer already, the cost for each of the two applications will be the same as a regular lawn application. For example, if you have a 5,000 square foot lawn, each of the two applications will cost $61.30 + applicable tax.
·
“How soon before I can re-seed bare areas where the crabgrass was?”
The applications are two to three weeks apart. Reseeding can be done seven days after the second application.
I suspect we will start crabgrass control toward the end of April, and almost assuredly no later than mid-May.
